My beloved Barossa

Long before I met Mr R, I knew there was a place called the Barossa Valley.

This is one of the major wine making regions of Australia.
However, the reason why I took notice of the Barossa Valley is due to this TV programme I was watching many years ago.
It was showing this region in South Australia as where the German migrants lived for generations that planted vines to produce their own drinking wines that were not otherwise available in their adopted country.

Many of the inhabitants of the Barossa still bear German names and have kept the German tradition.

Every two years, they hold a vintage festival here in the autumn to celebrate the end of the grape picking season.

When I saw the scenery and the traditions in this region, I really longed to see this place.

Many years later, I met Mr R and he brought me to this place where he was born and bred.

From the first moment I arrived, I have always loved this place.

The rugged golden hills, the neat rows of green vineyards, the historic Lutheren Church buildings, the lovely stone houses, and a little flavour of Germany everywhere.

Today, Mr R and I went for a little drive to Maggie Beer's Farm Shop.
We have been there several times, but no trip to the Barossa is complete without a visit to the Phesant Farm Restaurant.

Unfortunately, I forgot to bring my camera cable, but when I'm back at home, I will show you all the photos I have taken during the trip.

I will try to take some photos with my mobile phone and with luck, I can post some from my phone if I can ever figure out how to do it!
